    Scarface: first and second impact

    Posted on May 23, 2007

Some movies inspired my creativity and made me write my first short stories. Scarface is definitely one of these great movies that changed my life. I was a young teenager and it was a real shock to me, maybe I wasn’t ready (too young) for such a movie and that’s why I remember it so well. Since then, I watched it again a couple of times and always got into it, waiting with anxiety the chainsaw scene. Al Pacino‘s play is memorable, both flawed hero and cruel villain, becoming his own worst enemy, and the acerbic and classy Elvira played by Michelle Pfeiffer is -still- with no doubt, one of the most beautiful woman in the world. Oliver Stone (screenplay), Brian De Palma (direction), Martin Bregman (production) and Al Pacino is the winning quator for this cult classic gangster movie. That was the first impact. When I heard Hugh “Peanuts” Whalum, I closed my eyes…

    Posted on May 18, 2007

I like jazz, mostly ‘old jazz’ as many would say. When I draw, I listen to these beautiful voices from the past such as Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Dinah Shore but also Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra (and Dean Martin), Nat King Cole among many others. I’m also listening to more recent and varied artists like Luther Vandross, Michael Bolton, Harry Connick, Jr, Diana Krall, Robin McKelle, Norah Jones… I know Kirk Whalum for a long time, obviously one of the most influential contemporary saxophonist of his generation and last year I was browsing the Internet about his latest album. I got to his Myspace page and then I read something about a mysterious 75 years-old Hugh “Peanuts” Whalum. One click away and I was on Peanuts Whalum’s Myspace page. The Real Three Tenors started to play while I was reading with much interest the introduction note… READ MORE

JFK, Gore, Clinton and Obama into the Sama Family

    Posted on May 2, 2007

I am not Americanas you may have already noticed without any difficulty, but a few months ago (back in September) I started to work on my new Samazed Series and my first work was about JFK, with no apparent reason besides the fact his assassination is still in everyone’s memory (well, at least mine). Then I worked on other projects and in October An Inconvenient Truth was released in Europe, Al Gorewas almost on every channel over here. I guess this is the reason why I decided to include him into the Samazed Series; on this work, he appears like a little genius (actually his head only) coming out of a magic lamp. The one who introduces himself during his Inconvenient Truth tour saying: “I used to be the next president of the United States of America” has all the reasons (either good or bad) for being samazed. And so… READ MORE
