From sgraffiti to graffiti, from Cauchie to Seen

    Posted on Sep 26, 2007

I was first impressed by graffiti, then by sgraffiti. A pun that sums up my first approach with decorative Art. Graffiti Art is now worldwide known but it’s in the mid-1980s I had my first graffiti experience. I remember French artists like Lokiss or Bando, it was a great era even if graffiti were then only regarded like vandalism; at the same time, graffiti artist Futura 2000 was asked to work on a commercial for RATP (Paris Metro/Bus company). It was then a little inconsistent, not to say two-faced. Still today, it’s like graffiti are more welcomed in galleries than in the streets… I will not tell you the history of graffiti, many people already wrote about it but graffiti has existed since ancient times and has even been found in Pompeii. It has always been employed to communicate social or political messages. Recently, graffiti artist Seen, one of the… READ MORE

Dean Martin will be forever cool

    Posted on Sep 17, 2007

Last time I talked music was in my post about Hugh ‘Peanuts’ Whalum. In this post I mentioned some of the singers I enjoy the most listening to and the very cool Dean Martin was one of them. First time I heard Martin’s sublime voice was on a CD, singing with Rat Pack friends Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. Two decades after I listened to him for the first time, his easygoing attitude and velvety voice still captivate me. But Dean Martin is not only a voice as some of my friends may think. In the late 1940′s he formed a music-comedy team with Jerry Lewis, he was an actor in Rio Bravo, Toys in the Attic, Ocean’s Eleven (starring the five Rat Packers, in the original movie of 1960) to name a few, and he also hosted a successful TV show in the mid-1960s: The Dean Martin Show…. World Of Sama Exhibition + Website redesign

    Posted on Sep 10, 2007

I’ve been quite busy lately working on my next exhibition and the redesign of the World of Sama Website. I already mentioned this exhibition in one of my post and I’ve got some news about it. It will take place ‘this winter’ in Paris. Like my first Sama Exhibition (in an abandoned house in countryside), this one will be private and hosted in a cosy Parisian apartment (for a change, I like surprising places), not a gallery. It will be a one-evening exhibition, on invitation only. I will give you more details about it soon. Since it will be in an apartment, I won’t make big Sama installations like the last time but be sure I plan something huge ^_^ About the World of Sama Website redesign. The new World Of Sama (WoS) Website is online and kicking, and it’s much more pleasant to read. Sections of the site are now… READ MORE
