Voices on the Rise: Afghan Women Making the News in Paris

    Posted on Apr 25, 2010

A few weeks ago, I have seen an exhibition at Dorothy’s Gallery in Paris titled: ‘Voices on the Rise : Afghan Women Making the News – Des voix qui portent : l’actualité par des femmes afghanes’. The exhibition was dedicated to Afghan women working towards the reconstruction of their country from all fields: journalism, art, government, human rights. After Canada, the United Kingdom, and Indonesia, the exhibition continued its international tour to Paris. It was very interesting to see how these Afghan women have found their voices again thanks to their courage, determination and profession. The press release didn’t lie about it. Photos, paintings, sculptures and drawings created for this exhibition as well as afghan jewelry were presented on the walls and on display shelves. A tent in the gallery’s garden was decorated with additional afghan atmosphere, and in the main room we could watch a documentary about Afghanistan. Some of… READ MORE

Third anniversary already? Time passes too quickly!

    Posted on Apr 18, 2010

This month is the Blog’s third anniversary. Everything started in April 2007 and now here we are, three years later. How is it even possible time passes so quickly, I wonder everyday. So many things to do and so little time… But this post is about what has been done during the past three years and obviously, many things changed. Last year I talked about something new that was on the verge of being unveiled: it was the Sama Gazette. Since it was launched in July last year, you can read and learn about many different topics ranging from Arts to science, design to green, films and music to civil society and organizations… I honestly never thought so many people would visit the website; regulars from this blog but also many new visitors interested in what we have to say about almost any subjects. The Sama Gazette is definitely a… READ MORE

    Les aventures extraordinaires d’Adele Blanc-Sec

    Posted on Apr 13, 2010

Les aventures extraordinaires d’Adele Blanc-Sec opens tomorrow in France and Luc Besson‘s adaptation of Jacques Tardi‘s Adele Blanc-Sec sounds great. In 2007 (jeez, time flies!) I wrote about the director/producer in: From Scarface to Smokin’ Aces: the art of the gun sceneand I mentioned several of the movies he made like Nikita, Le Grand Bleu and Léon. Les aventures extraordinaires d’Adele Blanc-Sec is an adventure set in the early part of the 20th century and focused on a popular novelist and her dealings with would-be suitors, the cops, monsters and other distractions such as a pterodactyl unleashed on France’s capital city and a speaking mummy. I have no idea if the film is going to be released in other countries but I am pretty sure it will. Enjoy the trailer!

Sama Sun and tiny Sama fresco drawing from my Moleskine

    Posted on Apr 9, 2010

I thought it was time to show you a page from one of my Moleskine. Two years ago I told you about the Moleskine I use to bring with me when I travel. I like the quality of the paper, and it is small enough to fit into a pocket. When I draw on a Moleskine, it is a totally different kind of inspiration I have. I can be on a plane, in a hotel, in a cafe, waiting for someone or something, or just letting time pass. Each drawing represents a special moment, it only takes a few minutes to draw, it is like ‘instant drawing’. Over the past year, I received many emails from regular readers of this blog, asking me when I was going to show them some drawings from my so-called Moleskine, quoting me back in 2008 when I wrote in My Moleskine, Cary Grant, some… READ MORE
