Back To The Future with the 2011 Nike MAG

    Posted on Sep 15, 2011

We all watched Back To The Future movies at least once, and I was among the ones who wished the hover board was real. If it is still not, the good news is that Michael J. Fox‘s shoes from Back To The Future II are. 1500 pairs of the 2011 Nike MAG are currently auctioned on eBay with all net proceeds going directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Each day for the duration of the 10-day auction, 150 of the 2011 Nike MAG shoes will be made available via eBay’s Fashion Vault. The auction starts September 8, 8:30PM PST, and will end September 18. A lucky friend of mine already got his, so if you’re willing to live your dream and wear the shoes of Marty McFly, check this page on Ebay and be ready to spend your savings for the pair!

Sunday Roundup on Sudan and South Kordofan

    Posted on Jun 19, 2011

When will international community take action? This is the question asked on Twitter by Susan Morgan, co-founder and the Director of Communications for Investors Against Genocide (I mention them here). Many people are asking the same question right now. I wrote many times about #Sudan and #Darfur and I’m glad I could, for over two decades now (since the bloodless coup d’état by Omar al-Bashir in 1989) bring my humble contribution to raising awareness about the situation in the country. But as the years pass, the question remains: When will international community take action? Rebecca Hamilton, author of the book ‘Fighting for Darfur: Public Action and the Struggle to Stop Genocide‘ (I organized a reading group, I will post about it soon) said on Twitter: ‘Perhaps more depressed on #Sudan than I have felt since 2005‘. First time I heard about Sudan I was a teenager; now I’m not anymore… READ MORE

Mythic Miss.tic in Paris (with da-eYe)

    Posted on Jun 17, 2011 | Ω 6 Comments

This woman is more than that. Miss.tic is a modern legend. I managed to see one of her show in Paris, eventually. For years I admired her stencil work in the streets and enjoyed her clever aphorisms mixing puns, wordplay and double meanings. I mentioned her in my previous post titled Grandmaster Flash, Seen, Jordans… Remembering the good old days! and each time I see one of her stencils (more and more in galleries, less and less in the streets because of the laws against graffiti), it brings me back to the 80s… At this time, there were not so many women in the graffiti world but #Miss.tic was there, her female characters were sexy with sometimes suggestive poses. But most of all, they had something to say, about women (and human) condition, insolently questioning our society. So yes, I am a big fan of Miss.tic’s work and personality. She… READ MORE

Sunday Roundup: Sudan, particles, Gil Scott-Heron

New Visual Evidence of Government of Sudan War Crimes in Abyei. Here we are, again. Al-Bashir is back, alive and kicking. Hard. Again. And unlike in #Darfur, this time we can have proof of what is happening right now, thanks to the Satellite Sentinel Project: ‘The Satellite Sentinel Project (SSP) has released new visual evidence that the Government of Sudan has committed grave violations of the Geneva Conventions and other war crimes, some of which may also constitute crimes against humanity. The totality of evidence from satellites and ground sources points to state-sponsored ethnic cleansing of much of the contested Abyei region, says SSP. The evidence is being conveyed to the International Criminal Court and the UN Security Council.’ Many articles are being published about the situation in Abyei, so you can know exactly what is happening. I received many emails last week about #Sudan and I will post about… READ MORE

Grandmaster Flash, Seen, Jordans… Remembering the good old days!

    Posted on Jul 15, 2010

It was the end of the 1980s and everything was going to change for me. We used to meet in the lobby of the building, the smooth floor was perfect for teenage boys (and some adventurous girls) to glide and moonwalk. They were also slipping and tripping, a boombox was jamming out hip hop music before we decide to go ‘look for a wall’. At this time, everything was new to me (music, fashion, dance, graffiti) but it was hard to find these novelties. Living in France, things were a little different than in the US: if you wanted a pair of Jordans, you could hardly find them here but we had a plan: the father of a boy from school was a pilot (Paris/New York/Paris flights) and once a week he brought back a pair or two of Jordans to his son. Which shoes were immediately sold to one… READ MORE
