The Sama Fraternal Society belongs to you! For nearly 15 years online, I’ve shared my inspirations and work with you. Some of you have been visiting my websites for over a decade, and together, we’ve grown—exchanging ideas, perspectives, and meaningful discussions. This dialogue has been a constant source of motivation for me. With the launch of the Sama Gazette in 2009, our connection deepened even further, and many of you chose to take action, supporting the causes and organizations highlighted by the Sama Team.
And that’s how the Sama Fraternal Society came to life—born naturally from this shared energy and purpose. Propelled by positivity and strength, today marks its official announcement. Below, you’ll find more details about its mission, origins, and goals. My hope is that it inspires collaboration and encourages an open, optimistic mindset—especially as challenges continue to grow for many. We may not claim to change the world overnight, but I firmly believe in the saying: “Tall oaks from little acorns grow!” ^_^
The Sama Fraternal Society (formerly the Epicurean Fraternal Society) was born from the readers of the World of Sama websites created by Max Dana. Since the mid-90s—especially since the launch of The Sama Gazette in 2009—many of these readers, known as Sama Readers, have had the chance to connect, discuss, and realize how much they have in common. They wanted to raise awareness in their communities, among their friends and families. After all, change begins with awareness, and through collective action, we can confront the pressing issues of our time. Every individual has the power to make a difference—it’s within everyone’s reach.
This is how it all started: people eager to shed light on important issues, to engage in meaningful discussions, and to exchange perspectives. Some Sama Readers even took the next step—volunteering and supporting local organizations. From this, the Sama Family was born, and with it, the Samayans.
This page is dedicated to The Sama Fraternal Society—its origins, its mission, and what it stands for. We keep things simple, and we hope this effort to make the society more ‘official’ resonates with you. This is just the first step—many more will follow.
According to Wikipedia, social fraternities and sororities in the North American tradition do not focus on a specific profession or discipline, but rather aim to foster character development, leadership, and community. The Sama Fraternal Society follows a similar philosophy—but with a global outlook.
Let’s be clear: The Sama Fraternal Society does not promote any profession, individual, or ideology. It is an independent society built around one core principle—bringing together open-minded individuals who are committed to making the world a better place. Simple? Yes. Easy? Not quite.
The Sama Fraternal Society welcomes both individuals from all corners of the world. It is open to anyone willing to raise awareness about the challenges we face—whether in human rights, gender equality, environmental issues, or social justice. The first step? Stepping out of our bubbles.
Our mission is straightforward, and our goal may even seem idealistic—but we embrace that. The Sama Fraternal Society is founded on humility, goodwill, and a shared interest in shaping a better world. As the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states in Article 1: “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”
Again, simple in theory—but not so easy in practice.
These are the core principles of The Sama Fraternal Society. While its definition may evolve over time, its essence will always remain the same: listen, share, respect one another, respect the environment, and live in harmony. The Sama Fraternal Society exists to bring people together, encourage collaboration, and help coordinate meaningful initiatives. The impact of the Samayans—our committed members—will be whatever they choose it to be. The key is to stay engaged, remain open-minded, and never look away.
But The Sama Fraternal Society isn’t just about serious matters (if you read The Sama Gazette, you already know how lighthearted we can be!). Humor, creativity, and artistic expression are just as important. Whether through art, writing (yes, even Twitter counts!), or other unexpected forms, we celebrate those who use their talents to spark conversation and connection. This is a space for engaging discussions, free from knee-jerk reactions, sweeping generalizations, or snap judgments. It’s easy to be biased without truly listening—so we welcome the challenge of thinking critically and embracing diverse perspectives.
The Sama Fraternal Society is symbolized by its logo—a Sama head beneath the familiar Sama Rallying Sign, first introduced in Max Dana’s early exhibitions. What’s next? Twitter, a dedicated website, and plenty of exciting projects ahead. But at its core, this society will be shaped by you. It will evolve based on your engagement, your ideas, and your passion. Many Sama Readers and committed individuals are already organizing local initiatives and supporting important causes.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: “Either we learn to live together as brothers and sisters on this planet, or we will perish together as fools.”
We are deeply moved by how The Sama Fraternal Society continues to inspire people. Thank you for your unwavering support and motivation!
