I am interested in high energy physics, neutrinos and dark matter. I am no physician but I always had a keen interest for the universe, what it is made of, how/when/from what did it start and ultimately, what is the meaning of our tiny, insignificant life amidst this universe with no limits (and countless dimensions according to the M-Theory).
The 35th ICHEP Conference started last week at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, and the introduction of the event says: ‘It will be the first ICHEP conference where physics results obtained at the LHC will be presented! New results about the elusive Higgs boson, or signals of physics beyond the standard model might therefore be announced at this conference! Major discoveries in other domains such as gravitational waves, neutrino telescopes, neutrino oscillations, dark matter or in the flavour sector are also possible, just to name a few.’
If all this sounds way too serious for you (and it is very serious, indeed), tomorrow is La Nuit des Particules (Night of the Particles) at the Grand Rex theater in Paris. The event is open to the public and there will be a conference and Q&As with scientists. Then the film ‘Sunshine’ directed by Danny Boyle will be shown. Entrance is free, no reservation, so if you are in Paris and interested about the universe, maybe you can enjoy a great night learning new things 😉
The next ICHEP conference, ICHEP 2012, will take place in Australia.
