Back to Homepage ► BLK JKS, Amadou & Mariam and Angélique Kidjo live from Soweto I think everyone knows that by now: FIFA World Cup will start on Friday, June 11 2010 and end on Sunday, July 11 2010. Even if I am not a big football fan, I will watch some matches. But World Cup 2010 is not only about football: the world’s biggest superstars will come together live on VEVO on June 10 from Soweto/Johannesburg, South Africa for the FIFA World Cup kick–off celebration concert. You read well. And the list of performers is impressing: Alicia Keys, Amadou & Mariam, Angélique Kidjo, Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS, John Legend, Juanes, Shakira, The Parlotones, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Touré and Vusi Mahlasela. I will watch this concert with great interest since many singers and musicians I appreciate a lot will perform live. First BLK JKS. I wrote about them on September 2008: Music of Africa: BLK JKS, from South Africa and I will be happy to see them on stage. Amadou & Mariam are also among my favorite singers, ‘Dimanche à Bamako’ was such a big hit here in France! Angélique Kidjo will also be performing live on June 10. I follow the singer’s career since the late 80′s and it will be such a pleasure to listen to her beautiful voice. I have been told she will be at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July, I hope I will have some time to go to Switzerland to see her live. Eventually. Many artists will come live for the FIFA World Cup kick–off celebration concert. So even if you don’t like football at all, at least be sure to watch the concert or you are really going to miss something! |
