The Sama Zone is under heavy construction! Posted on Oct 31, 2007 The Sama Zone’s got to be ready for Friday and it will, despite the fact the place looks more like a battlefield than a cozy apartment… I have a free hand about what I want to do and I’m taking full advantage of the emptiness of the place (no furniture, nothing in there!) to show my works on both design and clothes. Some of you were wondering (yeah, I have read all your comments on the exhibition announcement post) what the show will be about, here’s a hint for those who will attend: furniture for living room (dining table and sofa chair), accessories (lamp and vase) but also sculptures (middle size, no giant this time). All theses objects have never been shown before, and are unique pieces. Paintings will of course be part of the exhibition and the new Sama Collection (mostly t-shirts) will be available to buy (it won’t… Dianne Reeves: Good vibes, and Good work Posted on Oct 29, 2007 Working hard on my next exhibition (a few more days left before the big night), I needed to take a break and listen to good music, the kind that really brings your spirit somewhere else during busy days. So two days ago, while I was looking at this huge pile of CDs I have, to find something ‘new’ (actually I mean something ‘else’, other than the artists I use to listen almost everyday like Hugh ‘Peanuts’ Whalum or Dean Martin), I finally found something ‘old’. Dianne Reeves‘ album: “New Morning” (Blue Note), recorded live in the pre-eminent jazz club of Paris in 1997. I couldn’t find this CD I had for years when I was first looking for it last year. I was then watching “Good night, and Good luck” (I mentioned the movie in this post) when I heard Dianne Reeves’ warm and deep voice. The movie recreated the… Charley Harper: wildlife like you’ll never see it again Posted on Oct 21, 2007 The purpose of this blog is to share with you, dearly readers, what (or who) inspires me, and Charley Harper‘s two-dimensional style illustrations definitely do. During a house moving, while rummaging through some ‘bric-a-brac’ stuff, I found an old magazine I kept only because an illustration of Charley Harper. It was a ladybug and it’s engraved in my memory forever. In my youth, I used to be up before daybreak to observe nature, I have always been impressed by the beauty and the complexity of wildlife surrounding us. But Charley Harper had a unique view of the natural world and could capture the essence of his subjects with the fewest possible visual elements, depicting animals, insects and nature (although the majority of his work was of birds) in a style he called ‘minimal realism’. Design, colors, symmetry/asymmetry, precision; everything is in the picture, with many details but the whole painting… Fafinettes: Jeanette and Claude, but still no Irina… Posted on Oct 15, 2007 A quick post about my new toys. I just received (better late than never…) 2 new vinyl Fafinettes, Jeanette and Claude. They are nearly 8 inches tall (19 cm approximately) and the figures are exact creations from graffiti artist Fafi‘s sketches. The toys have been produced by adFunture Workshop, in a limited edition of 2000 pieces. I already have the Sony capsule toys, Jeanette and Claude but Irina, the 11 inches tall rotocast vinyl figure (the Tan Colette version, limited to 200 pieces) produced last year by Necessaries Toy Foundation, is still missing in my collection (sadly sold out). As you already know if you have been reading my blog for a while, I really like Fafi’s paintings, drawings and sketches. Fafinettes are sweet, funny, sexy, explosive, liberated… They can be seen adorning street walls, on canvas and furniture, or even styling clothing. I also have the ‘Fafinettes Adidas pink… The Big Bang Theory: Am I really that kind of Nerd? Posted on Oct 12, 2007 The Big Bang Theory pilot has been available for months on Youtube and it premiered on September 24, 2007 on CBS. About the show (from CBS website) : ‘Meet two brainiacs with a lot to learn. Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) can tell their quarks from their quantum physics, but have no clue how women add up. Leave it to their pretty new neighbor Penny (Kaley Cuoco), just off a messy breakup, to teach them a thing or two’. It may not sound very funny at first, but it is, definitely. The show (created and executive produced by Chuck Lorre – creator of Two and a Half Men – and Bill Prady) is getting terrific reviews all over and it deserves them, I was laughing constantly. The Big Bang Theory is about “nerd humor” and some people I know who watched the pilot didn’t really get what was… |
